My interest in Giant Schnauzers began in August 1974, when I acquired a Border Collie x Giant Schnauzer puppy. Not knowing anything about the Schnauzer breed I set out to find as much information as I could. In those days there was very little published.
Luckily I asked at my local kennels where I boarded my dogs (the very same Bowenhurst Kennels I bought in 1988). They referred me to a well-known local breeder, the late Thea Jefferies. I instantly warmed to Thea, and a strong friendship began, Involving many trips to shows, watching grooming demonstrations given by the Giant Schnauzer Club, trips to the continent to look at Giant Schnauzers, and much more - a complete immersion in the world of the Schnauzer!
I purchased my first Pepper and Salt Giant, Nixador Priceless Pepper, from Thea in 1982. Since then I have shown, worked and competed in Agility classes with my successive generations of Giants.
I was very proud when I had my own first litter in November 1998. By then Thea had sadly died and I had linked up with another well-known breeder and friend, Di Hounslow, whose Remi, a Black Giant carrying Pepper and Salt to my Pepper and Salt bitch from Thea's line, Nixador Magic Hula. |
